Ahal Dara sunrise viewpoint is about 6 km away from our homestay. Namthing Pokhri is on the way, which is famous for the salamander. There is also an ancient Lepcha Gumpha en route, which is about 100 years old. You can drive down to Mongpu about 7 km away, to see the famous cactus garden and Rabindranath Tagore's Smriti Bhavan. You will get to see cinchona plantations on the way.

Paanch Pokhri trek is a mild trek of about 45 minutes and takes you through a tea garden. When you reach the top, you will get a 360-degree view, with the Kanchanjungha range stretching across the North and East, Balason and Mahananda rivers meandering towards the South, and Mahananda wildlife sanctuary on the West.

Sittong is an ideal getaway for those who want to immerse themselves in the tranquillity and peace of nature. The best way to enjoy the surroundings is to explore them; walk to Jogighat, a popular picnic spot for the locals. Find your way to the river and revel in the surrounding forests and the rocky riverbed. You can even spend some time fishing here.

A morning or evening walk through the village will bring you close interaction with the birds and the local people. You can spot typical Lepcha-style houses that are indigenous to the region. Birding is also a popular activity in the village.

Sittong weather varies widely according to altitude. In the upper ridges of the hill, it is cooler than in the lower area. The lower elevations may get warm during the summer and even the use of ceiling fans in some homestays is common. On the upper ridges, the weather is much more relaxed and may require warm clothing even during the summer months.

This particular Homestay is located in the middle of Sittong and never gets too warm or cold. You may need a fan sometimes in the summer and winter is not very bitter. Rain here is heavy to very heavy, especially during the monsoon months.
