Location / Accessibility
The Cinchona bungalow constructed during the British era is less than a hundred meters from our Homestay here. Although the bungalow has lost much of its glory due to poor maintenance, the compound and the bungalow still give you an idea of the heydays of the cinchona plantation.
Walk or drive just a couple of km to reach Ahaldara viewpoint. The hilltop provides a 360-degree view of the surrounding hills including a great view of the Kanchenjunga range of mountains. The place is famous for its great view of Kanchenjunga during sunrise. You may visit Latpanchar another 3 km from Ahaldara for a birding experience, or go a couple of km in another direction for the Namthing Pokhari lake. Sittong village, famous for its orange cultivation, is another 5 km from Namthing Pokhari.
At an altitude of about 1200 meters or 4000 feet, our Shelpu Sittong Homestay is neither very high in altitude nor very low. This ensures pleasant weather throughout the year. During summer the temperature rarely reaches above 25-degree celsius and during the winter it rarely goes below 5 degrees. The rainy season in the region is very strong as the entire northeast is among the wettest places in the world. You can expect heavy to very heavy rainfall during the monsoon months between the middle of June and the middle of September.

Direction
Reaching our Selphu Sittong Homestay is very easy and straightforward. First, you have to reach Birik Dara. This place is located on the National Highway 10 connecting Bengal and Sikkim.
The Birik Dara point is located about 3 km south of Lohapur bridge which is a popular eating joint on this road. From Birik Dara an uphill road goes towards the West, follow this road to reach our Homestay about 8 km away. Those who are not familiar with the terrain and have not traveled in the hills extensively are suggested not to self-drive. The road is quite steep and experience in driving in the hills is essential to navigating the sharp turns and steep gradient of the road.
