Sittong II, or upper Sittong, is a village located near Jogighat, district of Darjeeling. Toryok is a small hamlet in Sittong II. Toryok is home to about 600 persons and the houses are located some distance away from each other, thereby avoiding a feeling of congestion. As the entire region is a forest area, there are innumerable varieties of birds that are visible even from our property.
The valley stretches out before you and the Riyang river meanders across it. If you walk up about 300 meters from the homestay, you can see the Kanchanjungha range before you. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful haven or getaway to unwind from your daily work pressures, Toryok busty is the perfect place.
Humro Home Rashika Homestay offers the unique experience of staying in a place built purely out of local bamboo and mud. No bricks, stones, or mortar were used to build the structure, but the strong desire to showcase their ancestral region's indigenous products like the local bamboo gave birth to the hosts' dream project. There is a quaint sit-out in front, with a wooden umbrella-style covering. There are wooden benches where you can sit and enjoy a cup of tea while soaking in the fresh air rolling in from the valley beyond.
The rooms, dining area, and kitchen are all made of the same kind of material - mud, and bamboo.
Both rooms have attached Western-style washrooms. There are no geysers, but you will be provided with hot water in buckets.
2 Standard Double bedded rooms, each capable of accommodating a maximum of 3 persons. There is an extra cot in each room. The rooms are made of mud and bamboo and the beds too, are made out of the same local bamboo, providing an exclusive feature that is uncommon in such homestays.
You will be served meals made with mostly locally grown organic vegetables.
Location / Accessibility
Village walks will keep you entertained and occupied. You can observe and take part in farming activities. Stroll through the orange orchard (Suntale garden) and hike down to Buddha Falls, which is about a kilometre from the property. You can also visit the Sherpa monastery.
Toryok is a birder's paradise. Since the weather is so amiable all year round and there is ample natural food for the avian species in the forest, you will not miss catching sight of many varieties of birds.
You can visit Rabindranath Tagore's Smriti Bhavan at Mongpu. Ahal Dara viewpoint, Namthing Pokhri, Tamang Gumpha, and Mahaldiram viewpoints are all short drives away and can be visited during the day.
The weather in the Sittong area varies widely with altitude. Toryok is located in the upper ridges of Sittong II. The weather here is cooler. During the summer months of April – June the weather is comfortably warm. During day time you may not need woolens, but the evenings are cooler and warm clothing will be required. July to September is the rainy season. Rain here is heavy and the misty cloudy weather gives a magical look to the entire area. October and November are cold and temperatures may vary between 15 to 20 degrees during day time. However, this is the best time to see the mountains from Sittong as, after heavy rains, visibility is at its best. December to February are the winter months with temperatures varying between 5 to 15 degrees during day time. The overnight temperature may go to a freezing point.
Roshan and his wife Rashika belong to the small village of Toryok in Sittong II. The couple started this homestay 2 years back. They avoided modern bricks and cement construction and created a traditional homestay with local materials such as bamboo and mud. amenities such as WC and attached toilet are available.

From Siliguri, drive via Rohini road towards Dilaram. From Dilaram, take a right turn to Baghora, drive straight to Pokritar, and then take a left to Koilagodown. Toryok homestay is 5 Km from there. If you are coming from Kalimpong or Sikkim, take a right turn after crossing Rambhi bazaar and climb towards Mongpu. From Mongpu, take a left to Jogighat and Toryok is 3.5 Kms away
