We are situated right along the Jaldhaka River about a kilometre from the Jaldhaka High School in the Kalimpong district. The word Jholung is a derivative of "Jhoola", which means a hammock, indicating the quaint and laid-back nature of this hamlet, situated along the Bhutan border, with the Jaldhaka River forming the boundary. Although it is at a slight elevation, the temperatures here are not too low or uncomfortable. The Jaldhaka Hydel Project was started in 1966.

As you are staying right on the riverbed, angling is a natural choice of activity here. The area is also home to a variety of birds and bird watching is also a popular activity here. Even if you are not a regular bird watcher, waking up to the music of the chirping birds is really joyful. For enthusiastic walkers, there are some uphill trekking trails which may interest you.

Bindu Dam, Siddheswari Temple, Dalgaon Viewpoint, Gairibas cinchona plantation, Samsing, Murti and Lataguri. The entire area is a vista of springs, waterfalls and gurgling brooks. Once there, you are surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature.

Jhalong has agreeable weather most of the year, with the brightest days being from September through December. The average minimum temperatures range from 12 degrees in the winter months to 24 degrees during summer, with maximum temperatures hitting 24 degrees during winter and up to 30 degrees in summer. The region experiences occasional showers the rest of the year, with monsoon months getting heavy rainfall.
