It is a small village close to the upper ridges of the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary. The village has the advantage of being quite close to the major rail station and airport with NJP being just 46 km away.

The major attraction of Latpanchar is the birds. Birding enthusiasts from all over the world visit Latpanchar for a glimpse of the Rufous-necked hornbill in its nest rearing young hatchlings. The area also has some good sightseeing points that offer a great view of the surrounding hills and forests as well as a view of the Teesta river and Kanchenjunga mountain range.

To reach Latpanchar you have to drive through the National Highway connecting Bengal with Sikkim. You will reach Kalijhora, about 25 km from Siliguri town. From here take a left uphill road and drive for about 12 km to reach Latpanchar.
