Property Description:
Orientation
Our homestay consists of a ground floor with a parking area and kitchen and the first floor has 4 rooms towards the front and 2 rooms at the back. There is a covered area on the first floor, open from the sides - this is the dining area. The entire property is a wooden structure.
An interesting fact - the first floor was constructed at a height of 10-12 feet from the ground. This was done keeping in mind that guests could sit out in the dining space and not only get a view of the surrounding mountains and forests but also get a chance to espy the odd elephant, peacock, or barking deer.
Most of the cooking here is still done on the wooden "chulha", which gives the food a unique woodsy flavour.
The property has a parking space. It also has a lovely flower garden where you can spend a lot of time enjoying the colourful blooms.
Raimatang is located in the Western part of the Buxa Tiger Reserve. Our homestay in Raimatang is located right next to the forest bungalow. This location gives you a chance to spot some local fauna like barking deer, peacocks, and the like. The region is home to many elephants as well. Hence a stay here can provide some exciting moments.
The lawn has flowers blooming in abundance, providing a riot of colours that make an enchanting foreground to the main structure of the homestay. The homestay itself is painted in bright colours and although the property is simple in layout, it is very attractive.
6 Triple sharing wooden rooms, all with attached Western-style washrooms. No geyser is available, hot water is provided in buckets.
Location / Accessibility
Raimatang itself is a beautiful place to explore by walking around and soaking in the natural surroundings. Bird watchers will be excited by a variety of avian species. If you wish, our host will provide you with the services of a local person to guide you along the paths which offer sights of the birds.
You may opt to go for a moderate trek toward Panbari, Adma, and Buxa fort. This will take you around 6 hours, so you can carry a picnic lunch with you. The Dimapokhri trek is of shorter duration and you can complete it in 4 hours.
The Bhutan border town of Phuntsholing is approached via Hasimara. Further, Chuapara Tea Estate and Central Dooars region are within driving distance away and you may opt to go a little further towards Pasakha town.
Sikiajhora is a short distance away and offers a boating experience. You may wish to drive about 1.5 hours to Cooch Behar to visit the heritage Rajbari, the famous Madan Mohan Mandir, and Sagar dighi.
