Orientation
Rocky Island is a tourist spot on the banks of River Murti at Samsing. The Humro Home Tribeni is located on the riverbed here.
Our lodge here is about 3 km from Samsing Tea Garden. At Rocky Island, the river Murti enters the plains from its mountainous journey that originates close to the Indo-Bhutan border. On both sides of the river, there is a forested hill. The resort is located at an altitude of about 1800 feet or 550 meters above sea level.
Humro Home Rocky Island is a small eco-lodge consisting of 4 rooms. 2 rooms are in the main building whereas 2 cottages are on the adjacent ground. There is an open land of about 1.5 acres in front of the resort that ends on the Murti River. There are several trees on the lodge campus including orange trees that turn orange during the winter months. The eco-resort is located on the main road just across the bridge of the Murti River.
Rocky Island is a small village in the Samsing area. The place was originally called Tribeni as two small streams met here with river Murti. The riverbed is full of small and large rocks leading to the more popular present name of Rocky Island.
Our lodge is located on the eastern side of the river close to the riverbed. The resort is a small eco-friendly initiative by the locals in close collaboration with Humro Home.
Getting there
If you are travelling from New Jalpaiguri (NJP), by far the most important rail station in the region, the distance to Rocky Island is about 85 km and about two hours drive. From Chalsa crossing take the northbound road and drive for 16 km to reach Samsing Tea Garden. From here our eco-resort is a further 3 km on an unpaved road.
