Property Description:
Orientation
When the British left in 1947, all the bungalows they had constructed for the tea planters were handed over to the prominent and influential locals. Some of them went on to convert the properties into homestays to accommodate tourists.
There are a few bungalows that are still available at their pristine best. This is one of them. The bungalow has not been modified or renovated but has been maintained to the best capacity of the owners. The bungalow was constructed in 1912 and is more than a century old now, yet much of the interior and exterior remains as it was at the time of construction.
Food and Dining
Takdah doesn't have too many eating joints around, so by default, all our bookings to Takdah are inclusive of all major meals. The basic meal plan will include morning tea, breakfast, lunch, evening tea & snacks, and dinner. Local food will be served, choices will be limited given the remote location of the village.
Location / Accessibility
There is a hanging bridge just 2 Km from here, which is about 100 years old. Takdah is famous for its many tea gardens like Runglee Rungliot, Namring, etc. You can walk or drive down to any of them to visit. You can also visit the famous Orchid Centre where many varieties of colourful Himalayan orchids are grown.
Takdah's proximity to a number of places gives you the flexibility of opting to sightsee if you are in the mood. Even Darjeeling is very accessible, about 26 Km away.
Takdah is a haven for the avian species and hence a delight for birdwatchers. You can also walk into Takdah village, passing by other similar bungalows.
At an altitude of about 4000 ft, Takdah is situated lower than Darjeeling, yet has very pleasant weather and temperatures are cooler than the surrounding places.
